Your breath sustains you. It’s life force energy which is the one constant from the moment you are born to the time you take your last.

Your breath is also the first sensation to be forgotten when you need it the most. When you feel angry, worried, anxious or forlorn, a few deep breaths disconnects fight-flight-freeze and engages calm and relaxation.

Taking in a deep inhalation and expanding the ribs until your lungs are full of oxygen is one way to bring you into the present moment.
